aphids - eek
I have identified 3 different kinds of ladybird in the garden in the last week and I know there are wasps about but they weren't in big enough numbers to take on the aphids on this bourbon rose. Every single new shoot was lousy with them though there were none on the other roses. Would have waited a little to see if more ladybirds arrived but a bud was opening and I really wanted to see it.
So got the hose and gave the foliage a good hard wash down yesterday which got rid of most but they're clingy little blighters . I ended up dipping some of the cane tips in very dilute milk.
And so we have the beautiful hybrid bourbon rose Charles Lawson.

even with the little horrors on it that is a beautiful photo.
I get my fingers and run them up the stems and squish them, but they seem to have millions of mates.

I have heaps all over the new growth.Thing is some people say to squirt them off but you arent supposed to wet the leaves because of blackspot.anyway the soap and garlic spray hasn't worked this year so I will have to spray them .I usually wait for the ladybirds but i dont want to risk loosing the new David Austins
