Espalier spacing
I plan on putting in a row of fruit trees to espalier and was wondering how close I could go. Do you thing 150cm would be too close?

Re: Espalier spacing
That's a bit close I think Ray, given that the branches develop both side, the spread would tend to overlap a bit much. We put about 250 cm between ours and I shortened the laterals when they get long enough that they are beginning to encroach on the next tree. That's for the apples.
Re: Espalier spacing
Yes, I was musing over it today and decided that 150cm was probably not going to work. Then I looked at Bob Magnus' site and for dwarf trees he recommends 2m so standards, which is what I mostly have, will have to go out further I should think. As you say Blossom, 2.5m looks to be the go.
Today I bought
Apple - Bolero, Charlotte (strange, small, vertical trees)
Fig - Preston Prolific (great colour in the pic!)
Peach - Pixzee (cute)
Plum - Coe's Golden Drop and Green Gage (love plums)
Quince - Smyrna and Champion (gorgeous trees and quince pie ... mmmmmm)
I realised that my seed grown peachcot will have to be moved. I had planned espaliering it but Bob Magnus reckons that stone fruit take very poorly to espalier and they are best pruned to vase shape or perhaps fan. Either way it means the peachcot will get taller than I had planned so the poor thing can't stay where it is. Should have read up on this a year ago!
