hello everyone
has anyone got one of these in their yard? Are they as sweet as everyone says? Taste?

I have heard of them in that I recognise the name. But I don't know what they are either!

its a mulberry
Mulberry - White Shahtoot
White Shahtoot Mulberry Large sweet fruit can reach up to 10cm in length. It is delicious eaten fresh but can also be sundried and eaten as a sweet. Medium sized spreading tree with a weeping habit, excellent shade tree. Birds love them too so make sure you cover them if you don't want to share. You can also get multiple crops by pruning immediately after your first crop.

I have the white one but it is still very young and hasn't borne any fruit yet. So can't tell you anything about taste.
Just get it - I'm sure you won't regret it.

I grew one in the garden of my last house. Lovely weeping habit. Fruited abundantly. The fruit are honey sweet but otherwise have no depth. The flavour would no doubt intensify with drying. The ants loved them, that's for sure. If you have the space, then it's probably worth growing though the black mulberry fruit has more character. This is just my experience with the Shahtoot. One man's meat and all that.

Find white mulberries rather bland - promoted as non-staining but I love the mulberry season - stains and everything. The white ones I grew needed a dip in some sugar syrup - maybe there are different varieties of it though ?

Love mulberries - my favourite berry next to blueberries. Too old to wait for one to grow now, but the one we planted at the farm 20 years ago is huge! Bugger.............
