My Weird Ducks

Post  Shell Bell on Wed Apr 16, 2008 11:34 pm

I just thought I would share this Very Happy

I have two drakes and one hen, the boys never fight over their girlfriend and work together to protect her. She is sitting on 16 eggs at the moment and the boys have been very patient with her new meaner temperment. It's a very 'modern' relationship. Laughing

Will there be lots of cute pictures of fluffy little ducklings later on? Smile

you would be advised to keep the drakes separated from the hen when it comes close to hatching time. They can be disposed to killing the babies.

My goose has laid eggs and during the night she sits on them but during the day the chook takes over. The geese are housed in another pen so the chicken goes back to the chook house at night to roost. Now thats co-operation for you.

Amazing! We once put chook eggs with the duck eggs under a duck. Don't do it! All was fine, she never had a problem with her mixed brood, until it came time to teach them to swim.......... Sad

Yeah - chicks don't take kindly to swimming lessons. Mother hens don't like to see their adopted ducklings in the water either.
