The brown one is lovely Thee. I will be interested to see what comes from that big fat bud. You did well to get any bloom from them this year.

Re: My Iris Pics
Love those rich autumn colours Thee. Great looking iris. I used to love growing hippeastrums, when I lived in warmer climes. They won't grow here, but irises will. Well, bearded irises will, not sure about other types. Anyway, I've decided to grow a few more of them and have recently acquired three to add to the two I already had.

Between you and Jan and Marion with her Louisianas I am lost - am checking out a nursery today
That tanny orange one is simply gorgeous Thee - I really like it - is it a named variety?
Will look forward to seeing the rest

Re: My Iris Pics
Thee, whatever you do in your garden everything seems to bloom beautifully for you.
Do you sing to them
Fran, my Louisiannas will have to find new homes, unless I take them down to the dam to take over down there. they are too big for the large pots I have them in now.
so you are welcome to some of them, I have 6 colours now. and they love it up here.

Re: My Iris Pics
I'm trying to think where you are Fran. Up north somewhere? Beardeds will do well in land at Toowoomba and around their, but not in most other areas. Louisianas are a better choice and there are some rusty colours and deep oranges available. Marions pink is beautiful. Heather Pryor's prices aren't bad at all, and she sends good sized peices. Check her web page out:

If you want to try some beardeds, let me know. I am sure I can find a nice dark brown for you.
Cheers, Jan

Re: My Iris Pics
Jan, that is not fair, feeding a passion like that.
I didn't realise there were so many bautiful Louisianna Iris's I can just see me going to the B store and coming out with a whole stack of those big water tubs to plant more of them in.
or else getting the shovel given to me to start diggin a new dam for them. LOL

Re: My Iris Pics
Heather Pryor has a ....um I think it is 1/2 price ......sale late in the season, around June I think by memory. But you have to be a customer to receive her sale list. There's the rap! I think though, that $10 as many of hers are priced, is incredibly reasonable as they increase rapidly, and she has probably the best Louisianas in the world.

Re: My Iris Pics
Marion I was ready to take you up on that offer - you are kindness itself - appreciate it but DJ reminded me we have pups who love water. Also have no tub. You mentioned tubs from Bunnings - where do I look for them please - what are they made of? I can buy one now and again if I know what I'm looking for and maybe there'll be specials - get organized for next year when all puppy litters will be banned And maybe you'll have some for me then - when is the best time to think about acquiring them.
I'll check out HP - thanks Jan.

Re: My Iris Pics
ROFLOL - I can just see the pups swimming among the irises :-)
I gros mine in large tubs, sunk into even larger tubs without holes, filled with water. I put handsfull of well rotted cow manure into the water to feed the ravenous things. I can just smell the breath on those naughty puppies!
Cheers, Jan
PS - I DO worry a bit about snakes around the water irises in summer.

Re: My Iris Pics
Fran, they are large tubs with rope handles, I put the iris in a big pot and then put them in the tub of water.
Old bath tubs or laudry tubs work well too.
I throw in a handfull of blood and bone every now and then and they just love it.
Now Jan, you have me thinking about the snakes as well, especially after yesterday with the 2 snakes Reggie found for us.
darn things, I still can't see a reason for snakes except to tempt poor Eve in the Garden of Eden and that was a long time ago
